weekend fun without the sun
give it to young filipinos to be the life of the party -- even the spontaneous one.
last saturday nyt, a number of teen filipinos turned lkf into an instant street party when they, what else, showed their dancing prowess to the delight of pedestrians who were hopping from one bar to another. others joined the craze and danced the nyt away, while some took pictures and videos. i am sure there are already videos of the said street party on youtube.
i wanted to join, but i was already quite drunk. i was afraid i might trip and embarrass myself. also, there were a lot of paparazzi around, so i controlled myself.
but the iphone generation is relentless, unselfconscious and totally lacks inhibitions. they danced, shouted, laughed and urged others to join them. i luv!
sum of the pictures i took.
the cute kid in blue blazer with nice hair style in the last pic is antoine. i met him in another bar after i left the street party. he and his friend were totally drunk. we danced, had few more beers and then i went home. i left them with two pretty young gurls on the dance floor. last thing i saw, antoine and the gurl were already kissing on the lips and to think that they met only a few minutes ago. fabulous!

still nursing a hangover, i rushed to pacific place this afternoon to meet a friend for a book hunt. we ended up at this cute bookstore (kelly & walsh), a small one on the second floor. it looks like a kiosk covered with glass. lyk an aquarium. it's really nyc in there and the prices are slightly lower than in other bookstores in hong kong. too bad it has limited titles.
i fell in luv with the much improved cover for the catcher in the rye, so i bought it even if i have read it a number of times. i know, i know..i should not judge a book by its cover. but i am (and countless others are) always fascinated by book covers and publishers know it. that's why they spend lots of time and millions on coming up with attractive design covers.
but apparently, the former publisher of the catcher in the rye didn't care. they rely on the beauty of the book to lure buyers. here is how the cover of the old one looks lyk (and the one i had for a long time now). simple and plain. in other words, boring.
and the much improved one that i bought today.
i bet holden caulfield will be proud!

holden's musing while wandering around -- which described exactly how i felt this weekend when i went out to buy the book at pacific place :
"it was that kind of a crazy afternoon, terrifically cold, and no sun out or anything, and you felt like you were disappearing every time you crossed a road."
yes, hong kong is still enveloped by the invisible, icy weather.

but i was able to get a few including this cute penguin edition of j.d. salinger's the catcher in the rye (i left my old, coffee stained copy at home) and alan hollinghurst's the stranger's child.
