jester will set the showbiz world on fire

the showbiz world will soon swoon and dance to the beat of the newest boy band in town -- men of manila -- composed of twelve talented and gorgeous young men who will surely captivate the picky hearts of filipinos with their rendition of favourite classique love and folk songs like somethin' stupid,   made popular by frank sinatra and his daughter nancy sinatra.

(please listen below to nicole kidman and robbie williams' version of the song):

anyway, going back to men of manila, who is set to hold a concert on july twenty six at the music museum (buy your tickets now before they run out), let me introduce the youngest (only sixteen years old) and certainly one of the best looking guys in the group -- jester hernandez.

but don't be fooled by his innocent and boyish demeanor, his flawless baby-like skin, because at a young age when most boys are still unsure of what course they will take up in college and are mostly obsessed about sports (basketball, rugby), facebook, computer games, and hanging out with friends at the shopping malls and even at bars, jester has already mapped out what he wants to do with his life.

also, at sixteen, jester has already had his heart broken by his first love, his girlfriend for five years. sorry, but i am not at liberty to talk about it. what i can say is that the experience has helped him take his newfound calling of becoming a successful actor and singer very, very seriously. in fact, he uses that sad episode in his young life to motivate him during acting workshops.

among the young guys in the group, jester can already be considered a veteran with a regular teevee show and two films in production. not bad for someone who has been in the industry for less than a year, or just four months to be precise.

but let us start from the beginning....

jester just graduated from high school at st. mary's academy in dasmarinas, cavite city when showbiz knocked at his door, literally. a talent manager, a friend of his aunt, came to their house to see if he has indeed the potential to be a star. right at their living room, jester performed edwin mccain's hit, i'll be, and impressed the manager. needless to say, he signed him up right away.

(here's edwin mccain and his hit song, i'll be):

soon after that, he was enrolled at the philippine center for pop music to hone his musical skills. but even before he could finish the program, he became a member of gma seven's very late night variety show walang tulugan, hosted by veteran showbiz personality german moreno, who helped launch the careers of sharon cuneta, jackielou blanco, isko moreno, jestoni alarcon, and a lot, lot more big stars.

he is also in the cast of two independent films -- bisaya (a heavy drama where he is in the title role) and sarapan mo (a sex comedy. sorry to disappoint, he has no daring scenes. he's still a minor, you know).

because he became busy with his showbiz commitments, his parents asked him to choose between going to college (he wants to take up either tourism because he dreams of being a flight steward or marine engineering so he can work in a cruise ship) and going full time in showbiz.

"i chose to pursue my showbiz career. this is a once in a lifetime opportunity and not everyone is given this chance," jester says. "anyway, i plan to go back to school once my career takes off."

indeed, barely four months in the industry, jester, not contented with his nightly outings at walang tulugan (literally no sleeping) and shooting two indie films, also auditioned so he can be part of the men of manila. out of the twelve in the group right now, the producers behind the newest boy band in town are planning to launch only seven members to form men of manila. the final seven will be announced during the july twenty six concert.

by joining the group, jester hopes to fulfill his other dream -- to make it big as a recording artist.

how does he want to be known in the group? how will he distinguish himself from the rest of other equally ambitious hopefuls of men of manila?

"with the group, i am usually the quiet type, a bit mysterious," he says. "but with the public, i want to be known as someone who is playful, easy to get along with and approachable."

he also hopes to "explore and discover the world" as an entertainer. among other interesting places, he wants to visit australia and japan.

as idols, he looks up to robert downey jr. (i like him because he is smart in both his life and career choices), the man behind the famous iron man comic character, and vin diesel (i want to be like him, fierce, fearless and strong).

while he likes to be known as a versatile performer, jester leans towards action movies and he is currently enrolled in boxing classes at elorde gym not only to improve his physique, but also to make his body more agile and strong in preparation for doing those action scenes on film such as jumping from a helicopter at midair, chasing a speeding car, or shooting the bad guys.

with his determination to make it big in showbiz both as an actor and a singer, there is no doubt that jester, who is wise beyond his sixteen years (he will be seventeen next month, by the way, july seventeen to be exact), will set the showbiz world on fire! soon!!
