imm's too sexy for his suit

unlike most of his greenhorn mates at men of manila, imm zaidi already exudes the confidence of a veteran in the entertainment industry even if this is only his first time to tread into the sometimes calm, sometimes turbulent, but always exciting waters of showbiz. too, he has this effortless glam and modelisque posture that photographers and directors would fall in love with.

he may not have that perfect washboard abs like ryan gosling, but imm's facial expression and body language -- especially when he is performing on stage -- is just oozing with sexiness. and let's get it out this early, the five-foot, eleven-inch young man's shoe size is twelve. so there. go figure. now, we can go on with our story.

imm may project an easy-go-lucky, fun-loving, party-hopping spirit. but it's just a facade. or as matt damon's character famously (or notoriously) said in the movie adaptation of the talented mr. ripley: "it's just an overcoat."  because underneath the twenty-one-year old man is an old soul, a serious dreamer and future businessman. a second year marketing management student at the mapua institute of technology in makati, imm wants to put up his own food processing business in the future.

like a meticulous businessman, imm sees his foray into the entertainment industry as another step towards that dream, aside from, of course, having fun honing his singing (a talent he admits that he didn't realize he has), dancing and acting talents with the eleven other men of manila hopefuls, all of whom have become his best buddies.

"one of the reasons why i joined men of manila is to widen my network and meet a lot of people," says the ruggedly handsome imm, easily one of the best looking guys in the bunch. "in a way, it’s an investment that could be beneficial for me in the future when i build my own company and put up my own business."

"when you are famous, it's easier to sell something. i can do both, be an entertainer and a successful businessman. it's just a matter of managing your time," he adds.

time management is what he does best. he is juggling his studies, commitments to the boy band, practices, voice lessons, photo shoots.

all of these big dreams and aspiration are of course for his mom, who single-handedly raised him and his other siblings after she separated from his father -- a retired banker from oman. though of course, his oman-based dad is supporting him and his sister, both of them are staying in the philippines, financially.

but he doesn't have any daddy issues. for him, it's just another fact of life that couples separate and that children, especially young children, should live with their mother.

for now, imm is just too happy to be part of the newest boy band in manille.

"it's fun," he says of being in the group. "i am not that hungry for fame. i never even dreamed of being a singer. before, i can't even carry a tune. but after a year of voice lessons, training, constant practice, my singing has improved a lot. most of us in the group have become better singers."

just like most of his band mates, imm is single. he wants to focus on his studies and this new found calling of being an entertainer. he wants to be known as the simple, easy-to-get-along-with guy in the group. someone who is accessible, always ready to meet people and shake their hands, and most of all, relatable. just one of them, as he puts it.

where does he get this motivation to succeed?

"my fuel is the desire to give my mom a better life. she's already old and weak. that's my motivation. i am a family dude," he says. "people have this impression of me that i am this happy-go-lucky guy, always after fun. but deep inside me, i am a very serious person. i am very serious about everything."
