a bikini afternoon

generous friend invited mahatma gandah to once again fly all the way to the city of the stars -- quezon city (this time, no visa or passport necessary) -- and land at a huge mansion with its own swimming pool, billiard hall, among other amenities that only the very rich can afford. hidden by a tall, brown gate that projects mystery and incites curiosity, the house is the venue for the elimination round of the face and body contest that will hold its final night on july twenty six at the music museum.

(the previous owner of the house, i was told, was superstar nora aunor who lived here with husband christopher de leon. it is currently owned by a rich chinese real estate magnate.)

the finals of the model search will happen at the same time as the launching concert of men of manila, during which the producers and brains behind the boy band will announce the final line up that will compose the singing and dancing all male group. you see, just like the face and body quest, which aims to launch the newest models in town, men of manila is also another contest where some of the boys (i am hoping none at all) will be eliminated from the group depending on their performance.

anyway, going back to the original topic of this post, mahatma gandah served as one of the four judges of the face and body quest (both for men and women) and mind you, it's not an easy task. but mahatma gandah is not complaining. in fact, she had a field day assessing which ones of the boys and girls will make it to the final round on july twenty six.

the criteria for judging was really simple: face fifty percent and body fifty percent. i kid you not. it's that simple and straightforward, unlike mahatma gandah who is so complicated that it takes a genius like junezza zaidi artienda vda de dela fuente to figure her out. chos!!

the call time was around two in the afternoon (of course! alangan namang in the morning noh?!), but as early as one o'clock, talent managers, parents, handlers, make-up artists, gay fridays, and their hopeful talents started arriving, filling the mansion with lots of eye candies and noise. as well as nervous chatter, smokes, and other exciting activity.

it was like a party of sorts by the pool side, though we opted to stay indoors in an air-conditioned room because of the heat. what's wrong with mother nature? summer is over but it's still scorching and humid!! can somebody please tell us where's that rainy day they told us about?

the quest started at around quarter after two and finished at five. but even after it was over, there were still some talent managers who arrived with their wards in tow, hoping to convince the organizers to extend the elimination round and have their talents included in the final list of finalists. but no, the organizers were firm in their collective decision that late comers were not welcome. no chos!

anyway, here are some of the photos of some of the guys. mahatma ganda was not able to take pictures of the dozen or so girls because her camera ran out of battery. again, no chos!

(please don't ask mahatma gandah why misters fourteen and fifteen were wearing those horrid, shining, shimmering blue trunks. while blue is her favourite colour, this one just triggered her sinusitis!)

(one of the promising in the bunch, niko. too bad my (cheap) camera's a bit blurry from too much alcohol and wine the previous night. hahahaha.)

(niko just needs to shed a few pounds, fix his hair, practice looking distant and inaccessible like a true model and voila! he can give zoolander a run for his money!)

(tj, pampanga's best!!)
