finally, paulo (again)

after being missed from the limelight for several months last year, gorgeous young actor paulo avelino is back with a big bang! even before his latest soap opera at his home studio, abs-cbn, honesto wraps up, he is set to start a new one with one of today's hottest young actresses, bea alonzo.

in my book, this will be a perfect pairing. not only are they both talented actors, paulo and bea also possess the most beautiful faces in philippine cinema today. their pairing reminds me of the young christopher de leon and hilda koronel -- both ravishing, sexy and great actors -- in kung mangarap ka't magising made in nineteen seventy seven and shot in the romantic baguio city.

from the blogsphere (including this one), i gathered that paulo and bea will star in sana bukas pa ang kahapon. i am guessing, based on the title, that this will be a love drama story. maybe it will be another love triangle with a good looking man or woman thrown in to spice up the first ever pairing of paulo and bea. exciting noh?!

everybody knows that i am a fan of both paulo and bea, so i am hoping that the new soap, which i won't be able to watch, by the way, because i don't have cable at home, will be a huge success. (well, there's always youtube. right?! that's how i watched most episodes of my husband's lover.) i also hope that someday they will make a movie. it's about time that local fans will be treated to a well-made film starring great looking actors who can really deliver a credible performance.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

last year, i was able to watch paulo in two well-made movies: debosyon (where he played a farmer in love with a mountain goddess) and sana dati (where he was featured as a would-be videographer who fell in love with his older brother's former girlfriend who was set to marry another man). i love both movies and i hope that paulo will continue to make these types of films -- bold, daring, challenging, novel, innovative and with a well-written script.

(please click here for my post on sana dati and other outstanding films in two thousand and thirteen).

he made another one,  a very commercial movie from regal films that i didn't bother to watch. advice to paulo: please choose your movie projects well so you can replicate your best actor awards from your earlier film -- the divine ang sayaw ng dalawang kaliwang paa.

(when oh when will our country's major producers, regal and star cinema, learn to make even just one quality film a year? there was a time when regal made an effort to produce great films after great films even if they didn't bring in the money like sister stella l, hinugot sa langit, city after dark, bilibid boys, to name just a few. as for star cinema, i have yet to watch one....if there is. the much-hyped ojt or on the job is not exactly great. it was above average, to say the least, which isn't saying much given the quality of movies being shown in recent years. it was also kind of pretentious!)

here's also hoping that paulo will find the right girl that will inspire him even more to improve his craft. there were reports that he was dating kc concepcion. while kc is smart and pretty, i don't think they will click. they just don't have the chemistry. it might even turn some of his fans off. (kc can't seem to shake off that negative vibe that she brought upon herself after her much-publicized break up with heartthrob piolo pascual.)

****************

after his team up with bea, abs-cbn should pair paulo off with another lovely and talented young actress, andi eigenmann. i don't know about you, but i really like andi a lot, not only as an actress, but as a person as well.

she's honest (brutally honest in fact), romantic, bold, daring and articulate. i like the fact that she's not afraid to follow her heart even if it would displease some people close to her. she has gone through a lot at such a young age and this will make her an even interesting thespian to watch.

andi, in my book, is perfect to play the mermaid in the revival of dyesebel, who fell in love with a handsome man, fueling her desire to become human. it's sort of like the philippine version of splash. in fact, dyesebel would have been the perfect vehicle for the first pairing of paulo and andi. unfortunately, the big bosses at abs-cbn preferred to give the project to anne curtis, an overrated star who is not even gorgeous and can't even act. i also don't like her attitude.
