crass trumps class

(this is a very emily post post. pardon my pretensions, but i just want to get it all out. triple chos!!)
nowadays, crass trumps class.
people everywhere are forgetting their manners, leaving them hidden in their homes (if they ever have them in the first place).
showing off (and flaunting wealth) has become the norm, not the exception.
trying hards and wannabes are outnumbering the real ones.
fifty shades of grey is outselling one hundred years of solitude.
trashy gossip celebrity magazines and blogs upstaging time and, ehem, the new york times?

what's going on? are we headed to the great apocalypse? is judgement day just around the corner? remember what they say, whom the gods would destroy they first make them mad or something.
why do some nouveau riche insist on using ipad to take photos? it's just so tacky and an unnecessary display of wealth. what's wrong with the good old, handy camera?
why do some people have to wear all those expensive logos (in capital letters and displayed prominently) all the time, twenty four seven, as if they are paid walking billboards?
why do some people keep on buying those outrageously priced bags (even the ones who can barely afford them) when almost every wannabe socialite and pseudo rich own them? if i have that much money, i wouldn't care what i own. i would rather donate my excess cash to the poor than contribute to the wealth of the already super rich brand stakeholders! you can be fabulous sisters without that unfashionable and ordinary looking bags! believe me.

what's with these so called "it" gurls, gays and boys wearing those unsightly designer clothes that only make them look like tramps and worse, fashion victims? you can see them everywhere, their (oily) faces are on facebook(s), fashion magazines and all. as if the world is not ugly enough!
what's with all these nameless and talentless starlets who can hardly act or carry a tune behaving lyk they have already outclassed and outranked the great artistes lyk nora aunor or gina alajar?
while i am at it, since when being a "stylist" becomes such a prestigious and much coveted job? it's lyk addressing those crooks as "honorable gentlemen or ladies."
lastly, what's with all these kids hanging out at starbucks with their ipads and laptops and acting lyk they own the place? they are so loud, so all over the place. they feel so entitled, as if being able to afford a cup of latte already ranks them way up there with prince william!

call me (maybe) old fashioned, conservative, a fake republican (chos!), but i always prefer subtle, subdued, quiet. i maybe among the last of the mohicans, but i will always prefer the age of innocence anytime over borat.
i still say "please" "thank you" and "sorry" even if most people have obliterated them in their books.

see, this is what growing older does to you.
blogging at four in the morning about things you despise because you can't sleep!
BAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!
