an overload of cuties, an over indulgence in sweetness

Image
"this is all so quotidian," quipped my friend, sounding more like a professor of literature at columbia rather than a fashion enthusiast. "what is?" i said, indulging his fantasy. instead of answering me, he gestured towards the well-lit, smokey stage where models -- birds on sticks pretending to be women and women pretending to be men -- paraded the latest summer and spring collections of a well-known fashion designer, as well as the entire hotel's ballroom filled with some genuine old money heiresses, new money and no money socialite wannabes who mastered the art of social climbing. i quite agree with my friend, himself a famous fashion designer based overseas. manille's social scene is stale, trying hard, more cosmic than cosmopolitan. &&&&&&&&&&& want to try something more adventurous? i asked teasingly. before answering, he gulped a very pricey glass of s hipwrecked 1907 heidseick. then w...

single is everything

"when it comes to relationships, maybe we're all in glass houses and shouldn't throw stones. because you can never really know. some people are settling down, some are settling and some refuse to settle for anything less than a butterfly," carrie bradshaw, sex & the city. "i'm a try-sexual. i'll try anything once," samantha. afraid of being boring, even to myself, i decided to go out last night. just to see how the world is celebrating the overhyped, over-commercialised valentine's day (or in this cramped, filthy side of the third world is also known as kris aquino's birthday. in case you have not been following the country's all-important history, she is the youngest daughter of heroes senator benigno aquino and corazon cojuangco aquino, and sister of the current president. now you understand her significance!) by equally over-eager, over-enthusiastic romantics. excuse me, but i never like valentine's day. i was never be...

stylish looks for the scorching summer

Image
from details.com, i picked some of the hottest looks for the coming scorching summer days. enjoy! - florals. shirts, shorts, shoes. doesn't matter. but remember, please don't overdo it. one floral print is enough. pair it with something plain and dark (or even bright in the hues of blue and yellow). these shoes are divine! -- gorgeous man bags are in. in leather. in case you didn't get the memo, real men wear bags nowadays what with all the essential stuff and tools that you need to carry with you all the time: iphones, ipads, keys, laptops, books, perfumes, magazines, lip balm, etc. and mirrored sunglasses as well. like this one from rayban. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ some of the looks that will make a splash anywhere, even on the beach. (love the navy blue blazer and the shoes!) (i love everything about him: the very summery suit (seersucker), the slick hair, the dark glasses, the watch, the tan, the attitude. how very gatsby!)...

of first love and other demons

the elusive and reclusive yet apologetic mahatma gandah , who recently published the bestselling book – & man falls -- dubbed by the new york times as the “best debut ever”, relented finally on our request for an exclusive interview at an undisclosed location. since the publication of her debut novel two months ago, mahatma gandha had never been seen in public, even at her favourite coffee shop near the famous for its gorgeous sunset manila bay. despite (or maybe because of) her absence, the book has already sold seventeen million copies, making it the fastest selling debut novel in history. anyway, without much ado, here’s mahatma gandah, who popularised the use of “chos” and “no chos this time” on her blog…. what's your perfect day? waking up to the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and newly-baked banana chocolate chip bread. then be able to read quietly, without interruption. then write later on when the urge hits me. who is your perfect ...

another (street) fashion post for the hot summer days ahead

Image
(please play summer breeze -- below -- while reading this post to put you in the mood. it's one of my favourites, by the way, when imagining about those easy, breezy summer afternoons of youth.) i never really like the idea of a denim on denim look. that is, denim jacket over denim jeans; or denim shirt over denim jeans; or all together. it's just too brokeback mountain. though i have to admit that jake gyllenhaal looks dashing on those denims, whether he is riding a horse while leading a pack of sheep, or lusting after heath ledger from a distance. but lately, call it mid-life crisis, i have been lusting after the denim on denim look. maybe because i love wearing the blues : shirts, shoes, jackets, bags, scarves, sweaters. even the blue mood suits me well. so i scanned fashion pages after fashion pages to come up with the great looks for the torching summer days and nights ahead, and for the whole of two thousand fourteen. yes, i am declaring it boldly, as ma...

back to gap (updated)

Image
in the late ninety's, then reigning sex goddess (who can forget her leg--spreading scene in basic instinct that had generations of men salivating?) and beginning to be taken as a serious actress (casino), sharon stone shocked the whole world tuned in to the oscars' more interesting show, the red carpet, when she boldly proclaimed that she was wearing a sexy, button down, gap white shirt (an old one at that owned by her husband) over a vera wang skirt! ms. stone did not only dominate the headlines for weeks after that evening, but she had also touched a sensitive nerve inside of me, then a fledging and budding fashionista. chos! (until now, that look still lands on some fashion experts' best-oscar-looks list.) gap? my innocent mind asked. who the hell wears gap nowadays except middle-aged men? at that time, i was so enamoured with my rls, lacostes, banana republics. double chos!! since then, gap has won a page in my limited fashion vocabulary. every time a friend ...

lazy, sweet summer days (& romantic nights)

Image
ah it's almost summer. while the breeze is still a bit cool especially early in the morning (that's the time i usually go home so i know what i am talking about), there is no doubt that the scorching days are near. in fact, nights have become shorter and days are starting to be longer. for the fun summer days, i started searching for wonderful outfits that will fit the easy summer days, then the romantic nights with strangers at a street corner, at a mall, at the beach or in the mountains (sagada, banaue, baguio, tagaytay). &&&&&&&&&&&&&&&& while cruising through the streets of the sartorialist avenue, i saw this pic and fell in love with it. i love the total look, especially the white cotton dress and the converse, how they conveyed coolness to a higher level. i like the bag too and the swept up hair. how's that for the low maintenance look? this is what dressing should ...
