this book's life

"i'd rather have a good book than a good looking man. a book is quiet, pliant, does everything you tell him, is full of ideas and gives you one hell of a mental orgasm, way better than any fabulous guy with wash board abs can offer you!" -- anna kerinina landifa (or akl, the artiste formerly known as chinezza del bianco vda de dubois.)

we are at the tail end of summer.
soon the city will be bathed in dark clouds and thick rains, with no top or bottom in sight. just a city awash with liquidity. an aquarium with no fish. or corals. just people. umbrellas. trash. children, innocent ones swimming in filth caused by their parents.
when it rains, i usually don't go out. (i haven't been going out that much lately. even when i was still in  hong kong. it would take a lot to convince me to get out of my flat. call it senior citizen moments!) i prefer lounging in bed or in the sofa, just being lazy, sipping a steaming cup of coffee, hot chocolate or cappuccino. ella, beatles or adele on the stereo and of course, a good book on hand. in fact, make it tons of murakami, rushdie, garcia marquez, hollinghurst, foster, foster wallace, franzen, cheever, chandler, among other favourites.

*************

too, i luv the rains. i luv the sound they make when they kiss the roof, pavement. plok. plok. plok. it can lull me to sleep.
and then the wind. hungry. angry. lonely wind, wanting to embrace anyone and anything on its way. it won't settle for just a quick kiss. it wants to envelope you with its cold, cold fingers, hands, feet and hair. all over you. just to remind you that even in its silence, it's there. and it misses you.

&&&&&&&&&

if i have tons of money (say i win the lotto or a distant, eccentric relative leaves me with millions in the bank before she died) and build a home of my own, i will definitely have a quiet, calm, relaxing room where i can read all day, all night without any distraction.

here are my favorite home library (or room with a book) looks:

don't you just luv to laze around in a room of your own, read a favourite book while donna summer or barbra streisand is playing. add a steaming hot cappush or cocoa and presto, what a wonderful world!
