while the rain purrs

last friday, while the rain purred and poured heavily like an angry and sex-hungry cat, rich jetsetting friend and benefactor (patron) decided that we should just stay at the nearby hotel rather than be stuck in manille's infamous traffic. i said yes right away since i haven't been to that hotel for a few years now. it's not one of my favourites, and it's usually out of my radar (i need a visa to get to this place).

surprisingly, or unsurprisingly, not much has changed in the lobby's interiors and decor. the arrangement of the comfortable sofas and tables are still the same. fresh flowers artfully arranged on a huge center table, and on every smaller coffee tables. there's still a huge glass wall at the far end of the lobby that will give you a sweeping view of the swimming pool and the lovely garden outside.

that night, even if it was raining, there were a few children playing on the pool, followed by their uniformed maids with umbrellas and towels. such pampered kids! i just hope they are not children of corrupt politicians who are enjoying a luxurious life and lifestyle at the expense of the very poor, hungry and suffering filipinos.

the place was half-full with a few tourists and several locals who like us decided to just hang out there, drink a few cocktails or beers or wine, listen to the jazz music, engage in a small talk or gossip, and let the traffic and the rains outside ease.

as a conversation starter, i asked him about his latest european sojourn. how's venice? he gave me that bored, "why are you asking me that?" look. then he answered: "it's still flooded." we had a hearty laugh. and milan? "still expensive!" and greece? "still saddled in an economic crisis." ah, the rich people and their attitudes about travels, shopping, and the overall economy!

at the table next to us, a blond woman (i was guessing she was european) and her boyfriend (tanned, tall, skinny and middle eastern looking) were having a spat. we could not hear that much what they were talking about. a few minutes later, the woman, wearing white shorts and white blazer over red blouson (maybe she thought she was in the sunny st. tropez rather than in the rainy and flooded manille), walked out of the place.

the man remained seated. didn't even bother to stop her from leaving. hmmmm...my kind of man!

ah, the drama. rich friend and i merely shrugged our shoulders and drank our poison for the night.

of course, the rainy weather always brings out the dramah queens in all of us fairies. friend and i talked about our failed relationships. how many times we have fallen in love, who among them was the most serious, and how many of those were just, you know, for the sake of art (meaning just one night stands). we counted a lot of flings, but too few serious relationships. ah, we were so alike in so many ways than we thought. hopeless romantics but can't stand to be tied down.

what can i say, there are just too many fishes in the ocean to just settle for one shrimp for the rest of your life, right? having a permanent partner is just for old, boring, and i may add, sad gay people!

after we got bored talking about love or what may pass on as a relationship, we decided or he decided to take my photos. (he's camera shy). with me pretending to read (the light was dimmed so there was no way i could right), dead to the world, oblivious to all the dramas surrounding us. then later on, when the rain remained impervious to our prayers, we decided to have dinner next door. lovely!

chos! happy sunday bitches, witches, fairies, princesse, queens, pa-queens and wannabes!
