after being missed from the limelight for several months last year, gorgeous young actor paulo avelino is back with a big bang! even before his latest soap opera at his home studio, abs-cbn,  honesto wraps up, he is set to start a new one with one of today's hottest young actresses, bea alonzo . in my book, this will be a perfect pairing. not only are they both talented actors, paulo and bea also possess the most beautiful faces in philippine cinema today. their pairing reminds me of the young christopher de leon and hilda koronel --  both ravishing, sexy and great actors -- in kung mangarap ka't magising made in nineteen seventy seven and shot in the romantic baguio city. from the blogsphere (including this one ), i gathered that paulo and bea will star in sana bukas pa ang kahapon.  i am guessing, based on the title, that this will be a love drama story. maybe it will be another love triangle with a good looking man or woman thrown in to spice up the firs...

the year two thousand and thirteen is proving to be a great year for lovers of philippine cinema. after a good harvest at the cinemalaya in late july to early august (please click  here  to read about some of my cinemalaya reviews),  came the sineng pambansa national film festival all-masters edition (whew!) and the first cinefilipino film festival. the last two festivals, held one week apart in september, also featured films that were beyond the ordinary. if vilma santos heralded the cinemalaya festival, her erstwhile rival as queen of philippine cinema nora aunor was clearly the biggest come on of the cinefilipino festival. coincidentally (or not!), if ms. santos' entry at the cinemalaya festival, ekstra, was the top grosser in terms of box-office receipts, ms. aunor's ang kwento ni mabuti likewise earned the most among the cinefilipino entries. so whoever said that both actresses' luster at the box-office had diminished through the years is probably hal...

two movies at the ongoing two thousand and thirteen cinemalaya film festival -- porno and debosyon -- are using sex to expound their themes, as well as to eventually win the attention of picky cineastes. one is a long, tedious exposition on the culture of peeping into the most intimate acts between two people in a private room, as well as a critique on the society that condones such behavior; while the other is a glorious meditation on love, life and faith. &&&&&&&& porno, as the brave title suggests, is all about sex and is being marketed using sex as the main selling point. no surprise there. the minds behind the movie released photos of erstwhile bold stars rosanna roces and yul servo, both naked in bed, to newspapers and online media to lure moviegoers.  the two actors, unfortunately, had very small exposure in the movie that did not only dwell on the culture of pornography but a lot more. the marketing people even issue...

so talented young actor paulo avelino has a new movie. unfortunately, it doesn't look promising. the comedy slash drama movie is directed by the overrated but underperforming joel lamangan (he has no originality. almost all of his movies are copied from the great ones: lino brocka, ishmael bernal, mike de leon, mario o'hara and joey gosiengfiao); while the script (as i could tell from the trailer which, because this is a filipino film, already gave you the whole story, if there is one, as well as its highlights) looks like it's a poor imitation of the already lousy films about two supposedly rich, successful, classy and intelligent women (di nga?!) fighting (literally) over a man. but at least, paulo avelino is credible as the man torn between two beautiful women. or the object of two women's desires and the reason for their endless catfights. unlike, say, that ageing, balding, not so tall other actor who can't even act. the blogsphere is full of photos of t...

it's not even summer yet - the air is still a bit chilly especially in the very early morning. but the famous philippine underwear maker and retailer bench is already heralding the advent of the super hot summer with its new summer campaign featuring some of the sexiest men around. this early, the pink blogsphere is already abuzz with near naked pictures of some of the brand's scorching boys of summer. what can i say? it's a totally gay world. here are some of my favourites. enjoy! *leggy vince ferraren - sumptuous. he is turning out to be this year's hottest bench model, eclipsing even the established ones. to say that he stole the show is an understatement. i am talking about the annual flesh feast, currently known as bench universe. (will this become another shake, rattle and roll phenomenon? are we going to see bench universe 100th edition, the martians in thongs?) the lustable paulo or paolo avelino lorded it over the wannabes, trying hards, jologs (too many of them), the has beens, paminthas, and what have yous. sorry if i am being cruel here, i am just stating a fact. chos!! truth be told, pao(u)lo deserves every accolade that he is currently getting - he has it all, good looks, brains, beauty, gorgeous body and a face to lust for. never mind the expression on his face (he must be nervous that he might not be able to carry the burden of the ugly red thingie all over him) as well as the tacky red riding whatever motif. the "stylist" must have gone mad and gone on an acid trip...chos! &&&&& he looked better here. more appetizing than say a si...

lady luck has taken a shine on paulo (or paolo) avelino. after being elevated as the country's hottest heartthrob and dethroning quite a few not so hunky at the benchfeast, his talent has now officially been recognized by the prestigious gawad urian, one of the few credible award giving bodies in the local filmdom. he won best actor for his role as a student infatuated with his professor in ang sayaw ng dalawang kaliwang paa.  i caught this gorgeous film when it was shown at a local festival in makati and i was simply awed (or simply whelmed. haha.) paulo was really good in the movie. very natural. convincing. and i fell in luv with his character. (jean garcia deserves her win as well). oh well. if you haven't seen the film, look for its dvd copy. you won't regret it. for once, you must elevate your taste for movies. chos! ****** here is hoping that despite his big win, paolo will continue to remain sexy on and off the big screen. after all, this is w...
