at last a credible leading man
so talented young actor paulo avelino has a new movie.
unfortunately, it doesn't look promising.
the comedy slash drama movie is directed by the overrated but underperforming joel lamangan (he has no originality. almost all of his movies are copied from the great ones: lino brocka, ishmael bernal, mike de leon, mario o'hara and joey gosiengfiao); while the script (as i could tell from the trailer which, because this is a filipino film, already gave you the whole story, if there is one, as well as its highlights) looks like it's a poor imitation of the already lousy films about two supposedly rich, successful, classy and intelligent women (di nga?!) fighting (literally) over a man.
but at least, paulo avelino is credible as the man torn between two beautiful women. or the object of two women's desires and the reason for their endless catfights. unlike, say, that ageing, balding, not so tall other actor who can't even act.
the blogsphere is full of photos of the very handsome paulo to promote the film, which, by the way, i was previously eager to watch until i saw the trailer.
but unlike his bench billboards, paulo this time is fully clothed, fabulously dressed, if i may add. paulo is the only actor in his generation who can carry clothes well, not the other way around. even with his clothes on, paulo still looks scorchingly hot, even hotter than the summer. no chos this time.
want some proof?
here are some of them:
i love the blue and khaki combination. very manly. very summery.
&&&&&&&
the title of the movie, if you care, is the bride and the lover.
despite my misgivings about the movie, i might consider watching it if only because of another favourite young actress, the dusky and sultry lovi poe. she is one of the two women competing for paulo's body and soul. hahaha. lucky them. they get to kiss him. and more!
i don't know why, but ever since i saw lovi in temptation island (another poor remake of the eighty's obra directed by the genius of campy movies joey gosiengfiao) where she stood out among an array of untalented and boring starlets, i have become fascinated by her. it helps too that she is fierce. i love fierce women. especially if backed by a gorgeous body and face.
she and paulo have a certain chemistry that can, cliche alert, light up the big screen. like angelina jolie and brad pitt. chos.
&&&&&&&&
now, wouldn't it have been better if instead of jennilyn something, the producers hired another sultry, gorgeous and fierce young actress - andi eigenmann?
i don't know why the producers can't see the potential of pairing paulo and andi. plus lovi. oh it would surely heat up the screen!
&&&&&&
while we are at it, these love triangles among the supposedly rich and beautiful people would have been better in the capable hands of maryo j. delos reyes and jose javier reyes. especially the latter. he could write the script as well. only these two can match the excitement that the late danny zialcita had created in those countless and very well made dramahs with poetic titles (nagalit ang buwan sa habi ng gabi comes to mind. as well as bakit kay tagal ng sandali?) involving two women and one man (vilma santos and hilda koronel fighting over dindo fernando or christopher deleon; or snooky serna and pinky de leon competing for gabby concepcion's affection).
lastly, we really need writers like jose javier reyes and danny zialcita, who came from prominent families, to write about rich people with credibility. not those trying hard writers who think that just because the characters are wearing expensive designer clothes, bags, shoes; can speak passable english; drive cars; live in large houses straight from town and country with maids in tow; and hang out in expensive bars and restaurants eh classy na sila. por dios por santo!
((((((((((
oh well, lowell that's just me.
it's almost the end of april, but it's still sweltering.
chos!

andi is a natural seductress. a promising actress. she reminds me of the young cherrie gil (she is her aunt, after all) and dina bonnevie. classy and sexy.
