michael cinco on love and other demons

Michael Cinco: Chases Romance in Couture It seems strange talking about love months after St. Valentine's day in February. But romance knows no season, especially when you are with Michael Cinco. The international fashion designer -- known for his figure-hugging gowns that looked as if they were molded into the bodies of her models (think the recent incarnation of Superman and his newly-minted costume) and embellished with expensive Swarovski crystals, pearls and sequins that were stitched to utter perfection -- is a hopeless romantic. Love fuels his creativity, keeps his adrenaline rushing despite the tiresome pressures of coming up with dreamy, luxurious, fairy tale-like gowns and dresses fit for modern day queens and princesses. While he has been known to “eat, sleep, breathe and dream couture”, Michael is also a tireless lover, chasing love no matter how painful it can be. Love hurts, cuts deeply like  Swarovski crystals if you are not careful , but trus...

the more than fabulous mfive (who's not a five at all but a perfect ten)!

carrie bradshaw will probably chastise me for saying this. but her favourite word "fabulous" suddenly seemed inadequate to describe the magic that is michael cinco (whom i fondly call mfive) on the catwalk or runway or whatever you call it. i am, of course, referring to both the dresses and most especially the designer. now, don't get carried away. i am not a fashion expert. but i have an eye for beauty. i am an avid reader of vogue (if it helps increase my credibility) and vanity fair. and of course, i can very well tell a tulle from lace.   i know when something is divine and when it's trash. when it's classy, truly a league of its own, and when it's just a trying hard copycat. a poor imitation of the original. &&&&&&&& renowned international fashion artist (designer seems also too inadequate to describe him) mfive wowed manille again last night when he unveiled his latest creations to a stunned, enthralled, aw...

oscar what?!

Image
hohum. an oscar without meryl streep is like reading haruki murakami without the talking cat or two moons. it's just plain boring. yawn! even the best picture nominees look drab. steven spielberg, overrated in my book (i nearly committed suicide after watching his previous oscar nominated film war horse), is at it again. don't you just hate it that almost all of his "serious" movies are always begging for an oscar - the story, cinematography, musical score (especially), theme, actors, ridiculous! a musical? i never like musicals, even on broadway. call me what  you want, a culture savant for one, but i prefer watching movies where actors talk, shout, cry and not burst into a song. so les miserables is not my cup of tea. what about life of pi? ang lee's bold attempt to further expand his repertoire. it's outre in my book (i did not read the book either). i admire ang lee. i luv his previous obras - the wedding banquet (a huge favourite), eat, drink man,...
