delectable details : eskaya's edge

delectable is probably the wrong adjective to invoke here. but please bear with me and grant me the freedom to use as an excuse the cliched "poetic license", though i don't claim to be a poet, nor a writer of such magnitude to invoke this kind of privilege that's usually reserved for the likes of gabriel garcia marquez, he of the "one hundred years of solitude" and other epic stories and grand prose that deserved a nobel prize more than any other writer, past or present generation, can claim to be.

after such a lengthy intro, let me dive on the main topic of this post : the luxuriously luxurious eskaya beach resort and spa in panglao island in bohol, which has become a favourite getaway and go-to-escape from the maddening crowd of such high profile celebrities as paulo avelino, john lloyd cruz, and where socialite and celebrity cheska litton recently profess her marriage vows to the love of her life.

you ask: what makes eskaya so alluring that guests don't mind shelling out as much as one hundred and fifty thousand pesos a night for the privilege of staying at its most expensive suite, the presidential villa?

aside of course from their beautiful architecture -- a marriage between traditional filipino homes that offer, among others, high ceilings and generous spaces, for which the villas got their names "balai" (or home in local dialect), and the comfort of modern amenities such as wifi, huge flat screen tv, dvd player, personal ref filled with goodies and drinks -- the resort also offers that much needed silence and other rare commodities these days much like water in the desert: serenity, privacy, seclusion, and a personal butler to do everything that you wish.

the answer could be found in small things, tiny details that might escape one's vision, especially if you become busy feasting on eskaya's breathtaking view: the cerulean sea that at some point seems to be kissing the edge of the deep blue sky. then there are the emerald green trees, bamboos that give the illusion of being stranded in an island all by yourself.

these are some of the small things that will make you fall in love with eskaya:

this beautiful arrangement of flowers (suntan, to name a few) that are found all over the resort. from a distance, it looks like a giant pizza made of cheese and red meat.

can you imagine the painstaking effort that goes in removing each petal and placing them on this huge plate (is it a plate?) that's half-filled with water? then grouping them together so that the yellows won't mix and spoil the arrangement of the reds? i bet it takes hours and hours just to come up with such exquisite beauty, found at  the waiting area of the resort's spa.

@@@@@@@@@@

i love this jar that's quietly nestled at the foot of the stairs at every villa, and the "tabo" made of wood and coconut shell. you are suppose to use the tabo to scoop water from  the jar and wash your feet before entering the villa to avoid spoiling its beauty.

&&&&&&&&&&&&

the lamp posts that bear the number of the villa so you won't get lost, or enter the wrong villa, especially at night when you are a bit drunk from all the reds at the pool side bar.

this neatly arranged flowers inside a seashell at one of the resort's rest rooms. lovely!

or this one inside the villa assigned to me.

on a not totally unrelated note, suntan is probably the most underrated and unappreciated flower in the world. but i love it. the plant itself is easy to grow and does not require much caring. it requires minimal attention such as a once or twice a week watering. i should know, my mother used to have lots of them in colors of yellow, red, pink, and white on her tiny garden at home.

what's more, the plant bears flowers all year round. summer, winter, spring, or what have you. the flowers, once cut and arranged on a vase, also last longer than say, roses or orchids.

isn't it about time we see a lot of this variety of flowers at home and anywhere else? the name is quite appropriate too for a tropical country like the philippines, where the sun blazes all year round except during stormy days: suntan!

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

then there are the flowers laid like tiny pearls on one's bed and at the tub slash jacuzzi that are delivered fresh everyday. so that when you enter your villa, there's that arresting, lovely scent pervading the air.

&&&&&&&

there's also that lovely scent at night from a burning something that's placed at the bath and toilet area at dusk (around six) that keeps the mosquitos away. i love the scent, which is an assurance that i am not a mosquito, nor do i come from their phylum or genus or whatever scientists call it. hahahaha

there are probably more lovely details that escaped my always sleepy mind. i always felt sleepy the whole time i was at the resort, probably because the whole place is so ideal for sleeping -- peaceful, quiet that you can hear the angels whispering something, somewhere in heaven.

yes, eskaya is that heavenly!

that's all!!
